Another throwback to a car you may have ridden in with your dad or grandpa when you were a kid.  This time we had a 1976 Lincoln Continental Mark IV donated to Habitat for Humanity of Western Wayne County, Michigan.  The generous donor who is a resident where the car has been donated owned the car for over 12 years and is the third owner.  He stated that it is a one off of the 55,000+ built in 1976.  He also let us know the car is included in the Michigan Lincoln Club and National Lincoln Registry.  While some components of the car have had to be fixed or replaced over the years, one part that still works just fine is the 8-Track player!  I thought the existence of such things was just a rumor!

The Continental Mark IV was sold between 1972 and 1976 by the Lincoln Division of Ford Motor Company.  The Mark IV was designed to compete against the Cadillac Eldorado.  Some of the design of the Mark IV was shared with the redesigned Ford Thunderbird, however from the windows down the Mark IV had a distinct styling.  Part of this included the hidden headlights and the “Continental Spare Tire” trunk lid.  All Mark IVs were equipped with the 460 cu in Ford 385 series V8 engine.

Our Mark IV car donation to Habitat for Humanity has a paintjob described as ‘chestnut moon dust’.  What is interesting about this is in 1976, there were four designer editions offered.  These editions offered were from Bill Blass, Cartier, Givenchy and Pucci.  The Pucci model used the same moon dust paint finish as our Mark IV here.  However, the Pucci has a silver “Normande grain” vinyl and dark red “majestic” cloth interior.

After deciding that he could no longer take care of it, the donor decided to donate the car to charity.  His car donation charity of choice was Habitat for Humanity through their Cars for Homes vehicle donation program.  Habitat for Humanity positively impacts families in need of affordable housing.  Across the globe people say that in order to cover their mortgage they have to make tradeoffs including taking second jobs, cutting back on health care and healthy food, and moving to less safe neighborhoodsA decent and affordable place to live helps families by freeing them from such physical and mental hardships and placing them on a path of new opportunity and that is what the Cars for Homes program helps raise funds for.  The Western Wayne County affiliate to Habitat for Humanity helps serve the most populous county in Michigan.
